Younger me,
There’s going to come a point
He’s going to help you out of the van,
Don’t be afraid to hold his hand a little longer.
There’s going to be a time he will admit he drove to fast
He’s going to own the room when he walks in.
He’ll always be the friend everyone seeks.
But you’ll see behind the sunglasses,
Because somehow God let you love
Not what the crowds say
But who he was
The treasure in hidden in the shimmering eyes
And when you watch his blue eyes turning grey
Don’t be afraid to smile anyways
Because there’s going to be a point you see him get lost, start to lose hope-
Don’t stop praying.
There’s going to be a point he’ll go to her games
Don’t cry too long
He’s going to sit in the back
They are going to giggle
Don’t worry.
Because on that that rainy day
When he’s hiding the tears
You’ll realize
That you’ll want to catch every one
And that moment he calls your name
And holds onto the hug a little longer
Keep hoping.
Because he’ll hold on again.
And it will never get old.
And it will always feel like home.
Because somehow,
He loves you with unbrushed hair
He still takes your hand in a fever sweat
Loves you in best clothes
And in the dingy hospital gown.
He’ll love you when you smile
And when you cry.
Somehow he will love you through your faults.
And you will watch humility make him stronger.
Watch a smile that does not fade with time.
Christ’s love in him will remind you to look up when you keep looking down.
He will knows your favorite song
Laughs, but loves it anyways.
He will smile at your terrible jokes.
His hands are gentle, but strong.
His energy will keep you on your toes, but you’ll need it to keep going.
Somehow God’s made him not afraid of your anxious thoughts.
Your wounds don’t worry him.
So be honest
He’ll listen every time.
And you’ll realize every moment he in,
is the greatest adventure, the sweetest time spent.
And every prayer each night together
Falls on the ears of the most gracious Father
Who somehow called me to be his.
And no matter the pain and loss in life
The mistakes you make, the regrets you have
Younger me,
After loving Jesus,
There is one regret I’ll never carry,
I’ll never regret saying,
“I love you”
To that broken, but trying
The strong, but humble
The loud, but soft
Jesus loving man.
So, younger me,
when the moment comes and he says I think “I like you”
Don’t be afraid to say “I love you” back.
Because out of every adventure had, every place to go to, every mountain to climb,
The greatest of these is love.
